To & Co.
Japanisches Label mit europäischem Faible.
There is a clear penchant for European fashion history that is hard to overlook in the high-quality women’s and men’s shoes made by the Japanese brand To & Co. Inspirations range from the style of British gentlemen to decorative zigzags and ornamental perforations drawn from classic wing tips. The collection is strongly influenced by the 1950s, however, small details echoing other decades and also a love of antique artefacts is reflected in the overall East meets West style.
To & Co.’s brand concept is based on the cafés of Paris, filled with jazz music and a variety of characters drinking red wine and doodling on napkins; the epitome of an open-minded and playful scene that can be seen in every one of To & Co.’s products.
Japanese designers Hitoshi Hamada and Masahiro Wakabayashi, both of whom were living at the time in Paris, established To&Co. in 1999, initially as a men’s shoe label. 2001 saw the first women’s shoe collection, and in 2003 the line was extended to include casual styles and bags for men and women. To & Co. shoes are made to the highest quality standards, with the shoes initially being exclusively manufactured in cooperation with traditional Italian shoemakers in Civitanova Marche.
Recently the brand has also begun producing in other European countries as well as Japan. Since April 2007 To&Co. has been part of the luxurious brand portfolio of Japanese holding company Sanei International, and the label is currently distributed through direct retail and boutiques in Japan, and selected retailers in Europe and North America.
