The Italian footwear label Kailia Footwear is headquartered in Bologna and offers luxury shoes for women. The look: absolutely elegant and very feminine. The central theme: respect for the environment. With this principle company founder and designer, Nancy Dong, really hits a topical nerve demonstrating that glamorous styling and an exquisite finish are indeed compatible with an ecological conscience.

The outer soles of the shoes consist of chrome-free leather remainders. Recycled accessories and water-based adhesives are used inside. Breathable, natural wovens from bamboo and cotton serve as linings. Uppers include micro-fibre pile fabrics, rich jacquards and shimmering satins, to name but a few. All materials are bio-degradable, sustainable and do not contain any petrochemical products – their quality is certified. The shoes are manufactured in a family-run business in Italy where employees are said to receive above-average salaries and wages. The fine embroidery is produced in Indian workshops but under fair-trade conditions. All production stages are subject to constantly controls. .

"True beauty must not damage anyone," says Nancy Dong. A committed vegetarian and passionate environmentalist she was born in Taiwan but grew up in California. She learnt her trade in Paris. Prior to being self-employed she worked for such renowned companies as Ermenegildo Zegna, BCBG and Levi’s. Kailia footwear is supplied to the EU states and the United States of America.
